Behaviour & Training

Private Sessions

Private sessions are held in your own home, so we can address your dog’s behaviours in the environment they occur. New clients begin with an initial two-hour consultation, which includes taking a detailed history, observing your dog’s body language, and giving specific homework exercises. Following the initial meeting, I can make further training plans and recommendations.

Puppies: Common behaviours include nipping/biting, crate training, socialization, chewing, leash walking, housetraining, etc. The earlier you start training with your puppy, the easier things will be!

Aggression/Reactivity: Common behaviours include barking, lunging, growling, biting, etc. These can appear in many contexts including resource guarding, towards new specific people, towards other animals, etc. I will work with all types of aggression, including dogs who have a serious bite history. The key to working with aggression and reactivity is finding the root cause of the behaviour, from there we can form a plan to make your lives’ happier and easier.

Custom: Common behaviours include leash walking, barking, greeting guests, destructive behaviour, separation anxiety, basic obedience, off-leash recall, etc.

Group Puppy Classes (6 months or under)

Group classes are held at Market Pet Shop in Komoka, on Sundays. Classes run in small groups (4 – 6 dogs) for six weeks, with each session being approximately one hour and 15 minutes. Puppy class focuses on building clear communication between you and your puppy, and preventing serious behaviour problems from arising in adulthood. Cost per six week session is $225 + tax. Each class has dedicated time for off leash play and socialization between puppies.

Topics covered: dog body language cues, puppy nipping/biting/chewing, basic obedience, leash walking, leave-it, confidence building exercises, responding to fearful behaviour, barking, calmness and relaxation, meeting your dog’s exercise needs, etc.

I do not offer classes to dogs over 6 months of age. In my experience, these dogs are much more successful in reaching their goals with private in-home sessions. If you are looking for opportunities for your dog to socialize with other dogs, this can be achieved through private sessions, or daycare and boarding.

All puppies attending class must be up to date on age appropriate vaccines. Proof of vaccination is required, and puppies must have at minimum their second set of vaccines.
